About the role
A family located in Ojochal on Costa Rica's southern Pacific coast is seeking a certified North American teacher for a 10-month homeschooling sabbatical. This placement offers a rare opportunity to step outside the conventional classroom and educate two curious boys aged 7 and 10 in a lush tropical setting.
The instructional framework aligns with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme or comparable US/Canadian elementary curricula. You will teach core subjects such as English, mathematics, science, and social studies, taking full advantage of the surrounding biodiversity for hands-on, nature-focused projects.
Instruction runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The family provides private guest house accommodation on the property, giving the instructor a comfortable base close to local beaches, rivers, and rainforest trails.
Requirements
- Active or recent elementary/middle school teaching credential from a US state or Canadian province
- Ability to deliver core subjects: English, math, science, and social studies
- Competence in adapting lessons for two distinct ages and ability levels
- Experience with IB PYP or North American curriculum standards
- Passion for outdoor exploration, project-based education, and nature
- Regular communication and progress updates for parents
Salary & benefits
Private guest house accommodation on site, flexible sabbatical timeframe, and fixed daytime weekday hours.
